Secure Self Storage

Security features may differ slightly depending on whether the facility is indoor or outdoor, however all should have CCTV as a minimum requirement. As well as daytime surveillance, motion-detecting cameras will record any out-of-hours activity.

Self storage companies take security very seriously. After all, if customers are trusting them to look after their prized possessions, they need to be assured that protection against intruders, flooding or fire is in place.

How secure is self storage?

Generally, there are two types of storage facility. One is outside storage, where all the storage units are large containers lined up within an enclosed yard. Some facilities have garage-style units with a roll-up door, but these are still within an enclosed area. The other type is indoor storage. Here, storage units of different sizes are within a multi-floor building. There will usually be a reception area and a loading bay.

Security features may differ slightly depending on whether the facility is indoors or outdoors. However, you might want to check the different prices because self storage costs can vary quite a lot depending on whether the storage unit is indoors or outdoors.

All unit types should have CCTV as a minimum requirement. As well as daytime surveillance, motion-detecting cameras will record any out-of-hours activity.

Other features can include:

  • Alarmed perimeter fencing and gated access
  • Swipe card or keypad-activated passcode for staff and customers only
  • Individually alarmed units
  • Floodlights for outdoor storage units

For your storage unit, most companies will sell or rent padlocks and only you will have the key. This is the most common scenario for locking storage units, however it may be slightly different with some outdoor units. Whatever locking system is in place, always ensure that you are only person who has access to swipe cards, padlock keys or lock combination numbers.

Security at our premises

At our Storing.com storage facilities, looking after our customers’ possessions and ensuring their safe keeping is of premium importance to our business. We want you to feel confident that the items you place in storage are in a secure, safe and dry place.

Our premises are located near Bedford and have a range of security features to protect both our indoor and outdoor container storage.

Electric Pulse Fencing

A high perimeter fence surrounds the site and is an excellent physical deterrent to any potential intruders. The fence carries an electric charge and although this is not harmful, it’s advisable to stay away from it while visiting.

Electrified Gate

Out of office hours, the gate is shut and can only be opened by staff or customers with a personal swipe card.

Police Response Intruder Alarm Systems

In the unlikely event of an incident occurring, our alarm system has a direct link to a control centre. This ensures the fastest possible police response time.

CCTV Systems

Alongside the alarms, we have constant surveillance with our CCTV system. The motion-activated system records any movement with remote, real-time monitoring.

Authorised Access

Entry to the premises is solely for staff, and customers accessing their possessions.
